MONDAY
THEME:  BIRTHDAY CAKE

My son’s birthday is fast approaching and I have been thinking of ways on how condition him for his birthday party. That’s why for this week, I gave him the birthday cake activity to give him an idea what his birthday will be all about.

Here’s the details of what we did on this activity.

Observations:  He is always interested in doing crafts.  He develops a lot of fine motor skills, exposure to different colors and textures, and use his imagination!  I was also happy to see him working with cotton balls. It’s his first time to touch and feel cottons but he was not scared or even hesitated in playing with it.  He’s also able to squeeze the glue out from the container, which is good because he is learning how to use it.  Though he is still not liking how the glue sticks on his hand, and he keeps on wiping it on his shirt.

TUESDAY
COLOR/SHAPES/SIZES:  WATERCOLOR PAINTING

It’s been a while since we paint.  Then a few weeks ago, I realized that our old watercolor was not suitable for his age.  Damn.  I bought it at a nearby store and wasn’t thinking at all hehe, sorry, it’s just that at that time, I still don’t know where to get materials for homeschooling.

Anyway, this time, I got my son a watercolor from Faber Castell which is non-toxic and safe for kids.  But of course, children below the age of 3 years old should still require an adult supervision when trying out this activity.

Observations:  He’s getting good in identifying the colors.  I would ask him to dip his paint brush on a certain color and he does it correctly.  He can only paint straight lines and dots, not yet curves.  But he keeps on telling me that he’s painting a rainbow even if he is referring to his lines.

Later on, when I showed him how to clean his brush using the water from the bowl.  He was so interested with it that he doesn’t want to put away the water anymore.  In fact, he wanted to use the water as his paint.  So we end up doing the water painting activity.  It took him another 30 minutes to enjoy the water painting.  I have to detach the page of pad where he paints because the rest of the pads were getting wet.

I realized also that I should be giving him more water painting activity.

WEDNESDAY

THURSDAY
NUMBERS:  COUNTING PRACTICE 1 TO 10

This is the first time I introduced this activity to Mavi.

I used our flashcards for this activity instead of just showing it to my son and make him memorize the number :-)  I got the chip from the grocery store.  At the time, I still have no idea what to do with it, and now I used it for our counting practice activities.

Using the chips, we counted the different objects on the flashcards and match it up with the numbers of chips.
Observations:  I did numbers 1 and 2, and he did the rest.  I was pretty impressed on how he’s catching up… when it comes to numbers and matching, this kid is pretty fast! See how he can accurately put the chips on the pictures :-)

FRIDAY
FINE/GROSS MOTOR SKILLS:  SCOOPING PASTA

Materials:
  1. Plastic cup
  2. Plastic container
  3. Pasta
  4. Spoon

Observations:  He’s getting bored after 30 minutes and wanted to start another activity.  So I guess, I should be preparing at least two fine/gross motor skills per week.  No pictures for gross motor skills because my hands are preoccupied.  But I will be sharing some GMS that Mavi and I do during spare time.
