Tot School Wrap-Up 15

June 20 – June 30, 2011

Mavi is 33 months old.

We will be on vacation in the next few days that I am giving the little guy some works to do.  This week we did an ocean theme curriculum.  It took me a while to gather up all the materials needed. 

ARTS AND CRAFTS

We did letters W for Whale and C for Crab

MATH

I call out a number and Mavi has to put a sticker on it. 

Sorting and ordering the sizes of the fish.

LANGUAGE

We did letters: s,n, p and o.

Pink Series set 1 and set 2.

 

 

SCIENCE

Parts of the fish and watching videos about fishes.

MONTESSORI

OCEAN THEME

Here are some of the things we did during our ocean theme week. 

Sea animals letter crafts.  My son truly enjoyed this activity.  Details of letters W for whale can be found here and for C for crabs here.

Matching sea life creatures with the classification cards I made.  The objects were bought in a random store here and the other set is from Safari Coral Reef Toobs.

Sensory play.  I dumped some of the animals on a basin and let my son play with it. He loves to play in the water with his animals for hours!

 

For science I made nomenclature card for the parts of the fish, and made a puzzle of a fish out of foam sheets.

 

Arranging sizes of the Fishes which I printed out a long long time ago, forgot the link though :(

 

We watched a lot of videos about fishes. 

 

Play with magnetic letters and spelled the F-I-S-H word.

Letter Craft: C is for Crab!

Still with out ocean theme, we made a crab out of a letter c!

Mavi applying glue on the letter c and on each parts of the crab.

 

I have no idea what his intentions were, but he wanted to write something on the craft here.

Once he assembled and finally completed the letter C crab, I added gogly eyes to make it look more realistic.

T’was timely because his Dad was watching Spongebob, so he immediately placed his artwork beside the TV when he saw Crabby.

Later on, he asked for a tape so he can stick on our wall :)

 

Tot School Wrap Up Week 14

June 13 – 19, 2011

ARTS/CRAFTS

My son was into painting these days!  He paints all the nursery rhymes he could memorize.  I talked about this on previous post... I wanted to take a picture of each of his paintings but I still have no time to do it.  He’s so funny because he wanted me to take a photo of him with all his paintings on the background.

MATH

 

Since I bombarded him with math activities last week, this week I settled for mellow activity.  This one was ordering numbers from 1-20.  I write numbers in small pieces of papers and supposedly he’s going to order the number written on the chip of paper with a glue.  It seems that he rather more interested in using a glue brush than ordering the numbers.

LANGUAGE

We did our letters ‘c’ and ‘ns’ phonic box.  I’m still collecting objects for letters ‘n’ and ‘n’

While I work in the kitchen I let him play with his magnetic letters.  He loves to order them and his guide for it is the song “The Alphabet Song”

MONTESSORI

No practical life this week but he matched all his fruits and veggies with the classification cards that I made for him.  He love loves this game so much!

Tot School Wrap Up Week 13

June 6 to 12, 2011

Mavi is 33 months old.

ARTS

He did A LOT of water paint this week and it definitely needs a separate post!

MATH

We did 1:1 correspondence in three different ways:  using beads, stickers and using teddy counters.

[THE STICKER] This was an old activity, I was lazy to invent new ones for him so I just reused most of our existing activities.  Surprisingly, he still remembers how this thing works.  What I did here was simply put a number on a piece of colored paper, and Mavi has to put the number of stickers based on the written number symbol.

[THE BEADS]  I made these counting beads a long long time ago but Mavi wasn’t ready to use it then.   Here, instead of doing the bead-stairs activity of Montessori, I just presented to him the numbers of beads on a string.  As you can see, I don’t have a number 1.  Sadly, I can’t seem to find red beads here of the same size.  And I still lack brown and dark blue beads. I am hoping to find these beads color back at our homeland.

Beads wasn’t his type though.  Maybe when he’s a little bit older.

[TEDDY COUNTERS]  Here’s our version of Montessori’s numbers and counters.  Instead of putting it all in one line... Mavi wants to do this activity one number at a time.  So what I did here was put a number card on the felt, ask him what number it is... and he would put the number of bears that corresponds to the number card. So far he has done everything right.  The problem here was he wants to put the same color of bears and I ran out of blue bears for number 10.

We also revisited our clothespin math activities.

I made use of my old math printable cards both got it from here.  Surprisingly, he knows how to order numbers 11-20!

LANGUAGE

We worked on our letters ‘c’ and ‘u’.  As seen on the pictures, Mavi tracing the sandpaper letters and building the letters using my foam sheets.

He also loves to trace letters.  As seen here, Mavi tracing the uppercase letters which is a DIY cards.  The lowercase letters which I made him use for tracing, I got it from Kumon.

Ordering the alphabets.  He can do this without a guide already but he wanted to use this one though.

Tot School Wrap Up 12

May 15 to May 29, 2011

Mavi is 32-33 months old.

Our study of planets and the solar system. 

I borrowed a book from the library and showed it to Mavi.  The only thing he was interested of course was the sun and the moon.  But when I told him about our mother Earth, and showed him videos related to planets... he was hooked.

Here’s a few things we did for our solar system theme:

• coloring.  I’m happy that he enjoys coloring because he doesn’t like this activity before.

 

This is what he accomplished so far.  I did Uranus and Neptune :)

He asked for another “planet paper” and colored the second set.  I made him cut each of the planets.  To do this, I made a line to guide him where to cut exactly.

Then we paste the planets in our universe. Sorry, I ran out of black construction paper, so I just used our drawing paper.

LANGUAGE

We did object box for letters : ra and bi

  

We did our pink series: matching game

• re-enforcement exercise of our object box pink series 1

• currently mastering this picture card from our pink series 1.  It’s simple as matching the words to the pictures in the card.  I would first point the picture and ask Mavi to name it, and we would read the words on the card pronouncing each letters to form a word.  This helps him to easily associate words with objects.  I’m glad to say that he can already read these 6 words.

 

MATH

I’ve been ignoring math lately, as Montessori believes that math should come later.  But I can’t help but share this fun activity for Mavi which he loves dearly.  This is to connect numbers so he can form shapes.  He keeps asking me to write numbers and loves to connect them in order.  Now I must say he has mastered ordering his numbers from 1 to 10!
