This week, I was able to make the counting cards for the milk caps activity that we had last time.
I got these animal counting cards from Shannon’s blog.
Since this is a new activity for Mavi so we only worked with 5 cards. The activity went well, contrary to the one we had previously. He like counting the animals in the cards, and he can easily match the number of the animals to the correct number on the milk caps. He got tired when we reached the number five hehe. But I am happy that he showed signs that he likes this activity.
To test if he’s eager to work on counters that has no pictures, I made him these counting sheets to work on. What I did here was write a number on the left side, and draw the number of corresponding circles on the right side. To make it easier for him, I also write the number on the circle, as a guide. All he needs to do is match the number of milk caps on the numbers written on the sheet.
At first he just wanted to count the numbers written on the circle. He resist on placing the milk caps on the paper. So I just allowed him first to do the counting without the milk caps. Later that day, I took the counting sheets again, showed to him what we needed to do and this time he participated. He comfortably matches the milk-caps to the circles in the sheet.
As of now, I truly understand that he doesn’t understand the concept of counting yet (sample: he counts from 1 to 10 if I told him to count to 4).
