Hello Teethy!

I'm back to ZERO sleep. Mavi's got a rash on his face again, and his body. Currently, sinisipon rin sya. Blame it all on TEETHING!! Haaaay, those little teeth, come out, come out already... Maverick and I are in pain.

My little boy started teething in the mid of his 3rd month of life. The picture below, is taken last December 8, 2008. As you can see, balot na balot ang mga kamay ni baby. We have to cover his hands dahil he continuously sucks, and smudge those saliva sa face nya and results to a face rash. The bib naman, is of course para doon sa saliva nya, he drools narin kasi, and the end result nababasa ang damit nya causing a rash again on his chest.

According to my bestfriend Dr. Sears, teething is usually expected around 6months of life, pero since my husband started teething when he was 3 months old, so hindi na nakakapagtaka if my son starts teething as early as 3months also.

When he turned 4months old, dito na talaga lumabas lahat ng symptoms of teething. Below, the picture was taken around 3AM. That's no sleep for me and Mavi. He had not been sleeping well and had occassionally burst out in uncontrollable crying at night, or pag madaling umaga. Siguro pag merong magnanakaw, for sure mabubulabog yun sa iyak ng baby ko. He had already been sleeping through the night for a while already, so it baffled me what was causing his sudden change of behaviour.

According to the New Parent's Guide
Not sleeping well: With teething pain happening during the day and night, you may find your child wakes more often at night when the pain gets bad enough. Most parents agree that the night waking happens more often during the first set of teeth and with the molars.

Irritability: As the sharp little tooth rises closer to the surface your baby’s gums may become increasingly more sore and painful, leading to your baby being very fussy. The pain and discomfort is most often worse during the first teeth coming in and later when the molars come in because of their bigger size. This is most often the case since babies become accustomed to the sensations of teething and learn to live with them. But you may find your baby may be fussy during the whole time that every tooth comes in. Every child reacts differently.

Maverick is super irritable nowadays, sometimes he just burst out crying for no apparent reason, like when he's in a middle of a nap or sleep. I just soothe him by patting his legs then hum a song or just kiss him and tell him "Mama's here baby".

Drooling: From three to four months of age you may see your baby start drooling more often than normal. Teething stimulates drooling, which is often worse with some babies than others.
Every day, twice or thrice akong nagchchange ng damit namin ni Mavi. Yes, both of us changes. WHY? When he drools, pati damit ko nababasa rin when I carry him. Most of the time, his saliva would flow-out in my arms.. kadiri. So you should see the pile of our laundry today. Poor helper. He's been a drooler since 3 months. More saliva are coming out nowadys, especially he places his hand on his mouth, or even his toys or just his lampin.

Coughing: The extra saliva can cause your baby to occasionally cough or gag. This is usually nothing to worry about as long as your baby seems fine and shows no signs of a cold or flu and does not run a high fever.

It's hard to identify if the cough is due to his teething. My son kasi, medyo mapilyo. Kapag hindi nya kasi gusto ang ginagawa sa kanya, like cleaning his nose, he coughs. Nagprepretend si little boy na me sakit sya so that we will stop cleaning his nose. That's why umuubo sya na fake. He started doing that when he was 2months old pa.

Chin rash: If your baby is a big drooler, the constant contact with saliva can cause the skin around the chin and mouth to become irritated. To help prevent this, gently wipe your baby’s mouth and chin periodically throughout the day.
Poor boy, the rash is always present talaga. Napaka sensitive kasi ng skin nya. When his two lower central teeth sprouted (February 8, 2009, 5 mons old), the rash disappeared. Pero meron na naman ulit ngayon. Might be those two upper central teeth na naman that's causing the rash.

Cold like symptoms (runny nose, etc.): Some parents find that their baby will show signs of having a cold. Runny noses, coughing and general cold symptoms are believed to come from the baby having their hands in their mouth more often. Play it safe and always notify your doctor if symptoms such as this occur.

Cheek rubbing and ear pulling: Pain in the gums may travel to the ears and cheeks particularly when the back molars begin coming in. This is why you may see your baby rubbing their cheeks or pulling at their ears. However, keep in mind that pulling at an ear can also be a sign of an ear
Biting & gnawing: A baby that is teething will gnaw and gum down on anything she or he can get their mouth around. The counter pressure from biting on something helps relieve the pressure from under the gums.
As I mentioned, he does have some muscus which started 2 days ago, blocking his nose and preventing him from sleeping properly. Remember about my clamor on not feeding? Well that was before his first two lower central teeth appeared. Now, his feeding is back to normal even though we are still expecting two more teeth on the upper.

There are still a lot of signs that a baby is teething, but I only indicated the ones na meron si Mavi. You can check out the rest on the links that I have posted below for other symptoms.

So now, I am trying my best to soothe Mavi's discomfort. I would chill his teethers and then gave it to him to bite to soothe those gums.

I hope this teething phase is over. I want my baby back before he turns into a little monster hehehe!
