Here are the things we did for this week.
Monday
Theme: SNAKE
To introduce him to the snake, I downloaded some baby-friendly videos from youtube.com showing snakes in cartoon form or in puppets. I wanted to avoid scaring him of the sight of snakes as seen in some movies, so I tried looking for those educational videos about snakes.
I also made these paper craft snakes using colored papers and a string. I got the idea from the DLTK’s website. To make it slither I put a string on the head and showed how to make the snake crawl by pulling the string.
What he learned: This is the first time I showed him videos or pictures of snakes… not those in books and cartoons. So far he knows that snakes can crawl, has scaly skin and makes a sound “hisssss”. Now, going back to the snake craft, he played with it for three days until he finally lost interest :-(

Letter: N

Tuesday
Letter: N
Since Mavi is into numbers nowadays, I tried this activity of the Letter N for him instead of doing some lacing or coloring activity as we usually do. Basically, it’s a huge letter N with numbers pasted on it. To know more about the details of our letter of the week activity, please click here.
He was able to:
He was able to:
- Develop his fine motor skills through coloring the letter N.
- Know that the word “number” starts with letter N.
- Develop his fine motor skills by gluing the numbers written on the colored paper into the letter N. He positioned and glued them by himself.
- Identify the numbers through their symbol from 1 to 12. And after he has glued them all, he keeps on counting them accordingly.
Wednesday
Color/Shapes: Sorting colors
Color/Shapes: Sorting colors
From my previous post, I introduced him to sorting of the yellow and blue colors using my sorting cards. This time, I tried all the four colors. I would ask him to give me a shape in a certain color. For example, blue bear… then red bear… or yellow butterfly… then green butterfly.
What I have observed is that, he knows the color, and can identify the shapes. But the problem is… he gets the first three right and then he would fuss and keeps on giving me the incorrect color of a certain shape. So I guess, it’s too much for him, exposing to four colors and keep on asking him to give you certain shapes. So next time, I might try exposing him to just one shape and then 4 colors.
As part of our activity, I also introduced him to the small and big sizes. This is our first ever activity on sizes, so again, the activity is just a miss or hit. What I did was print this sorting size cards from Confessions of Homeschooler, and just showed him the big and small nests.
While I was doing it, I realized that I’m showing him too many different sizes. So on our next activity, I might just show him 1 big and 1 small object. Anyway, these cards were made for sorting or arranging sizes and Mavi’s not yet ready for that.
I made him play the cards since he was so interested with it. He’s trying to figure out what to do with it, he thought it was a puzzle hehehe.
Thursday
Numbers: Counting
I wasn’t able to prepare materials and I was doing some errands, so we just read his 123 book.
Friday
Fine and Gross Motor Skills and some fun activities
This week, I made him paint the cookie using Nutella instead of a watercolor so he can eat it afterwards :-) I also made use of my cooking brush!
At first I demonstrated how to dip the brush into the Nutella and brush it on the cookie. He was excited to do it on his own. Eventually, when he got tired of paint his cookie, he started to lick the cooking brush hahaha. Next time, I will try yogurt painting.
