My notes on Mavi's homeschooling for Week 13
Date: July 26 - July30, 2010
Source: Bright Beaming Resources
Here are the things we did for this week.
Monday
Theme: Grandparents
Tuesday
Color/Shape: Color Sorting Blue and Yellow
But unfortunately, Mavi still has no idea how to sort the cards per color. What he did was sort or pair the cards according to their shapes. As seen below, he paired the blue heart with a yellow heart.
I didn't mind it. If that's the way he wanted to play these cards then let it be. Tot school is a child-led homeschooling anyway. And I discovered more pairing later on.
Wednesday
Letter: M
Thursday
Number: 12
Friday
Activity: Cutting/Scissor
Mavi's been showing signs of interest in cutting, so I bought him this plastic scissor which is safe for toddlers.
Here are the things we did for this week.
Monday
Theme: Grandparents
I wanted Maverick to know more about his grannies back home, so this week I make it a point to have the grandparents theme.
Not much prepartion, I just sorted out pictures of the grannies from Pampanga and Bacolod and showed it to him via a slideshow. He knows his grandmothers, but he got scared when he sees his grandlolos on the screen. He's not used seeing them, unlike his Lolas wherein we usually talk everyweek on the webcam. So he sees them weekly.
I was also happy that I have a few videos of my father back home with Mavi. I showed it to Mavi and told him that that's him and Lolo Nonong. At first he was pretty pretty scared, holding me so tight while watching the videos. But on the next day he wasn't scared anymore. In fact, he kept on shouting Lolo everytime he sees my laptop.
I would probably do this once in a while, showing him pictures of his grandparents back home so he won't get scared once he sees them in person again.
Tuesday
Color/Shape: Color Sorting Blue and Yellow
Months ago, I made these sorting cards in different colors. I just printed it out from a homeschooling website I stumbled on the net in blue, yellow, red and green colored paper. Then I pasted it on a cardboard and cut the shapes.
I observed that Mavi's so focused everytime we do card games. He so fastened with the activity that at times, he doesn't want to let me butt in or even tell him what to do.
Anyway, so instead of sorting the shaped cards by color, he learnt how to sort the cards according to shapes.
Wednesday
Letter: M
He wasn't that interested in lacing the letters so I just gave him the coloring paper for him to color this week. I introduced the words that starts with the letter M (see pictures on the paper): mouth, mouse, monkey and moon. I made him repeat the words after me. Then I instructed him to color each picture with crayons. So far, he's getting good in coloring. He can properly manipulate his thumb and hand movement so that he can color a certain area.
Thursday
Number: 12
I didn't have sufficient materials so we just read his counting book which I showed in my previous post.
Friday
Activity: Cutting/Scissor
Mavi's been showing signs of interest in cutting, so I bought him this plastic scissor which is safe for toddlers.
I plan to expose him to "cutting" activities to improve his fine/gross motor skills. But warning, even with this plastic scissor, the child should still be supervised.
He was really happy to have his own scissor. At he tried to manipulate it, experimenting on how the scissor works.
Then I gave him some colored paper to cut. See how he uses both of his hands to cut?? Isn't it so cute? He also tried using one hand hehehe. But as of this time, he still doesn't know how to use it. That's okay he's only 1 year old.
Just a note, we do the fine/gross motor skills weekly on a Friday and continue doing it everyday till the next Friday. Some I do change the activity within the week if I can see that he's bored or at times, continue the same activity on the next Friday if we missed doing it during the previous days.
