Since we started using watercolor, it’s all about free paint. Most of the time, we’re doing free art... drawing lines, circles and just mixing shades. This year, I plan to put some sense in our watercolor painting, which means, we will be painting objects, scenes, pictures based on the books we’ve read or pictures we came across that interests him.
For a jumpstart, I asked him what he wanted to paint. He told me he wanted to paint a sun and a fish.
We painted these together, with guidance of course. I would ask him what’s the color of the sun, then he would dip the paintbrush into the yellow palette and I would guide his hands in drawing a circle. I made him do the clouds too. I just showed him how to do it and he finished the rest.
The fish came as a surprise. He told me he wanted to paint the fish which he saw on the cover of the Faber Castel watercolor. I love that he can associate pictures with paintings. This gave me an idea to collect photos or cut-outs from magazines and stuff so we can paint it in either watercolor or a tempera paint.
