Indoctrination starts early for my little boy hehehe. I bought my son those story books for me to read to him every night before he sleeps. My baby is interested, but you know what?? He Talks more than listening hahaha. As Mommy reads, my son is doing those "bababa" and "dadadada" with me. Is he reading it too?? Or just responding to me?
Since I am a full time Mommy, I am currently taking my time and making use of it to educate my little boy early through a series of sensory stimulation programs which I have learned and read from the book How Smart Is Your Baby?.
I took a picture of the Outline Bit of Intellegent cards. Since these are not available on the local bookstores, I decided to create it myself. Bought some blank flash cards (size of 11" x 11") and a black cartolina. I formed the shapes, cut and paste it.. then vuela, my very own BOI.Note that the BOI should be simple and large enough for baby to see. The program says that start with these simple outline cards, and as the sensory pathways for the baby grows, the cards should become more sophisticated visually and intellectually.
So what to do with this card? Here's a simple activity:
- Hold the card 12" to 18" away from the baby's face and say "square" (that is, if the you are showing him the square shape).
- Now wait and give the baby time to find the card. This may take several seconds
- When he finds the card, repeat in a loud, clear voice, "square".
- Now give you baby a hug and kiss and tell him what a good feloow he is.
Do this activity 10 times daily. Show a new card every day for one week.
Observation: Maverick wasn't interested on the square, nor the circle. He was more attentive to the shape of my hands and feet. My husband says, Mavi is interested on the more complicated shapes. I also realized that the color black (outline) doesn't interest him. I believe that he surpasses the stage of using the Outline BOI and should move on to the colorful ones. I think he is too old for the Outline BOI already, and I should work on giving him more colorful shapes for this interests him a lot.
There are a lot more activities presented in the book, programs for language stimulation, auditory and many more.
For fulltime Moms, I advice that you should get this book. As your baby learns, you will eventually learn more about your baby too.
