My notes on Mavi's homeschooling for Week3

The following lessons were taught to Mavi this week.

I didn't highlight the books that we've been reading compared my previous posts.  English books are so rare here so we barely have new ones.  So what I do is just read the available books to Mavi over and over each week.  I usually read the book every morning, before we start our lesson.  It came to a point that Mavi knows this routine, so every day.. he'll have tantrums and fuss if we don't read a bbook.

Booster shots

Dearest Mavi,

This morning we visited a private clinic here in Belgrade for your booster shots. We finally discovered a private clinic located at New Belgrade.  Your Dad and I have been looking forward to this visit because it's been 10 months since you last visited a pedia.  We were hoping that everything will go well so that our fear of not having pedia here in Belgrade will finally wane.

To make the long story short, you had your booster shot today.  Thank God, everything went smoothly.  The clinic's clean, and the receptionist, the nurses and doctors were very friendly.

Your pedia, Dr. Ljiljana was so fond of you. She told us that you are such a beautiful baby boy.  It's just funny though, that she couldn't speak English. There was this kind male-nurse who was with her and served as her interpreter.  You were so quiet the whole time, too shy to speak I guess. It's a good thing that there was a lot of toys inside the clinic, so you just kept on playing with them while the doctor is examining.  She first checked your breathing, then your lymph nodes, weighted you and measured your height.  At 18months, you weight 11.5kg and 83 cm in length. She told us that you are in perfect condition.  Then she prepared your vaccine.  She put a cream of anaesthesia on your butt and after 5 minutes we laid you on the platform on your stomach. Daddy was holding your legs while I was hold your arms, facing you... talking to you to keep you preoccupied so as not to feel pain. After a few seconds, it was all over and you did not show any sign of pain. Wow! Good boy!! Daddy was very very happy that you finally had your booster shots and we were able to find a good pedia. He can finally sleep hehehe.

To celebrate, we bought you Sladoled Karamel!

We will go back on the first week of April so you can have your laboratory test.  Then six weeks from now, we will go back to the clinic again to have your MMR shots.  

So Mavi, we thank God everything for giving us a wonderful, healthy and smart baby boy.  Thrive my dearest...

Toddler Beginnings Week 2

So far, I like this Theme System as a method of teaching Mavi.  It only requires 1 subject a day.. so I don't run out of ideas of what type of activity to give Mavi. It's fun for me too as well, doing arts and crafts, preparing materials for the lessons, searching for poems, books, and videos to watch.  So this is how a preschool teacher is!!

Theme: Jungle | Vocabulary: Vines | Color: Green | Letter: B | Number: 2 | Nursery Rhyme: The Little Nut Tree 

Since this is the second week of our homeschooling, I was a little bit prepared with my materials.  Good thing I was able to find some art papers at the grocery last week, and printed out outlines of animals for the counting and color activities.  I also found some coloring books at Turbo Limac; I might probably buy this coming weekend.  The coloring books will be used during the color lessons.  Mavi doesn't like coloring yet, so I'm going to use the coloring books to allure him.  Plus, I'm still looking for some toys (non learning) for him to play during his "free play" moments.  He's quite bored with his current toys, in effect he's too clingy most of the time and that would mean, no time for me to do chores!  Haaay.  So he needs something to keep him busy while Mama do some stuff, so that will be my next project.  We tried to checkout some books too, but sad to say we were not able to buy one because the bookstore ran of English books.

Toddler Beginnings Week 1

Having the urged to start Mavi with the theme technique, I started out the Preparatory Curriculum this week.

Here's how I implemented Week 1

MONDAY

Theme: Cow

Vocabulary Word: Calf 

I introduced to him the theme by showing pictures of how that I printed out, and the books that we have that has a cow on it. It wasn't hard introducing him to the cow because he's already familiar with the animal and how to call it. When I showed him the picture, he immediately recognized it, saying "cow" without a hint from me.
